Anandarup Mukherjee

IfM, Department of Engineering,
University of Cambridge, U.K.

Dr. Mukherjee works with the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) of the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge, UK. He works on designing and implementing various low-cost industrial sensing and monitoring solutions across a range of manufacturing industries. His team works closely with many UK-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across diverse manufacturing domains and consults them on their digital transformation journey towards Industry 4.0. He leads the conceptualization of low-cost IoT digitization solution testing and their evaluation, as well as works on the impact assessment of digitization in SMEs using these low-cost and off-the-shelf solutions. He also looks into how typical digitization solutions in manufacturing industries can be easily transformed and repurposed for quick use across healthcare industries. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. His Ph.D. focused on conceptualizing, designing, and implementing various data and computation offloading solutions for UAV networks. His research interests include Industry 4.0, Industrial IoT, IoT architectures, digital transformation, IoT sensing, IoT communications, networked robots, and unmanned aerial vehicle swarms.

Anand has given keynotes, panel talks, invited talks, and lectures across UK and India. Most recently he was invited to talk at the coveted multi-agency sponsored SRISTI-GYTI Conclave 2021. He has been awarded various prestigious awards such as the 2018 Gandhian Young Technological Innovation award by the Hon’ble President of India for “Socially Relevant Innovation” in 2018, the Dr. A. K. N. Reddy Award for commercialization of prototypes in 2018, and others from organizations such as IBM and Johnson Controls. During his Ph. D tenure, he has also been the recipient of many prestigious travel grants for attending conferences, workshops, and meetings across the globe from organizations such as Microsoft R&D, ACM, IIT Kharagpur, DEITY, etc. He has been popularly covered in national print and televised media for his works on UAVs and IoT-based systems in healthcare. He has also been associated with various national and international funded projects of organizations such as ITRA- Media Lab Asia, ICAR, British Council, etc.

He frequently serves in various capacities in various renowned international conferences, has been invited for keynote lectures, and regularly talks at different academic and industrial venues on his works in the domain of UAVs, IoT, and recently Industry 4.0. To date, he has a total of more than 50 referred scientific publications in IEEE and Elsevier journals and some of the most coveted conferences, such as IEEE INFOCOM, WCNC, ICC, and GLOBECOM. He is the author of two textbooks on IoT and Industrial IoT from Cambridge University Press and CRC Press, respectively. He has more than 300 citations with an h-index of 10 (Google Scholar) to date. He regularly serves as a peer reviewer in more than 30 highly impactful IEEE Transactions, and other IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley journals.
